Who is the Carpetguru

Hi! I'm Jim Goddard.

I grew up when television was featuring the Jackie Gleason Show and families had two parents. I like IKE buttons were worn, and the coolest movie out there was War of the Worlds. I even survived the Vanport flood of 1948. I remember when everybody smoked 'cause it was cool; now nobody smokes 'cause it ain't cool. I grew up as the oldest of three kids and became responsible at an early age. I went to Richmond grade school in SE Portland, and I attended Lake Oswego High School. I graduated from Portland State in 1966. Served in Viet Nam in 1967. Lived in Germany in 1968 and 1969. Worked my way through school in the carpet business, and started Carpet Classics in 1976.

I married my dream girl whom I'd met in high school. Janet and I have two sons, Matt and Marc. We have recently become empty nesters and am enjoying the chance to spend time like we used to BC (before children).

Hobbies include attempting to play the piano, learning enough about computers to survive the twenty-first century, and adding to my laser disc and DVD collection of action movies. You'll notice there is not a great deal of physical activity there, but I am thinking of trying golf again.
